The Artist

Mia Marie was born in New York City. She began practicing ceramics at the age of thirteen at Buxton, a boarding school in Massachusetts. She graduated from Guilford college in 2019, completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in ceramics. After college she began working and teaching at various studios in New York City. She finished the Emerging Artist residency, a three month program at Air Vallarius in Vallarius, France. In addition to her ceramic work she began drawing during the pandemic. Mia is now working on connecting imagery and form.

Artist Statement

As of late, Mia has taken to fusing the ancient with the modern by using hand-made porcelain historical mediums (vases, mugs, and teapots) as a canvas for images of contemporary womanhood. Her work often features women drawn in provocative poses or people in New York City, and are inspired by renaissance paintings. These images are chosen to continue the conversation about the juxtaposition between one’s visible outer world and the constant changes of their hidden emotional world.
