The Artist

Mia Marie was born in New York City. She began practicing ceramics at the age of thirteen at Buxton, a boarding school in Massachusetts. She graduated from Guilford college in 2019, completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in ceramics. After college she began working and teaching at various studios in New York City. She finished the Emerging Artist residency, a three month program at Air Vallarius in Vallarius, France. In addition to her ceramic work she began drawing during the pandemic. Mia is now working on connecting imagery and form.

Artist Statement

As of late, Mia has taken to fusing the ancient with the modern by using hand-made porcelain historical mediums (vases, mugs, and teapots) as a canvas for images of contemporary womanhood. Her women, often drawn in provocative poses, are exclusively borrowed from internet models and influencers. These images were intentionally chosen to continue the conversation of modern sexuality within her work.
